Jimmy has just finished a critically acclaimed sold out run of his 7th Edinburgh solo show, ‘Jimmy McGhie’s Tribal Gathering’ at the Edinburgh festival 2017. The show will now transfer to the Adelaide Fringe and New Zealand Comedy festival in 2018. Read The Scotsman’s review of Tribal Gathering here >
In November he will be performing on the prestigious Laughter Factory Tour in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and can be seen at all the top comedy clubs around the UK between now and Christmas.
2017 has been busy so far, with Jimmy doing his fifth tour of Australia and New Zealand. He headlined ‘Best of the Edinburgh Fest’ to sold out crowds at the Adelaide Festival and appeared on the ABC Network’s stand-up show ‘Brexit at Tiffanys’.
Moving onto New Zealand he toured with the ‘International Comedy Allstars Show’ as well as a sold out run of his solo show ‘Apologia’ in Auckland and Wellington as part of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. Jimmy also appeared on the highest rated television show in New Zealand, ‘7 Days’ as well as popular magazine show ‘The Cafe’.
“He is also a clever actor and the other characters that pop up as he herds us through his hilarious hour are pitch-perfect.”
Jimmy was an Assistant Producer for the BBC’s Science and History Dept, having spent seven years working in factual television before he ran off to join the stand up comedy circus professionally in 2009. Since then he has performed stand up all over the world and appeared on numerous television and radio programmes including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Comedy Central, ABC Australia, THREE New Zealand, Absolute Radio and many more.
He is “a brilliant talent” (The Scotsman) and with “an easy charm and appealing relaxed manner” (Chortle), he has performed 10 solo shows at festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Perth Comedy Festival and New Zealand International Comedy festival.
He is now a top circuit act in the UK, as well as a highly sought after corporate awards host and TV warm up artist. He regularly provides the studio warm up for BBC1’s Graham Norton Show, ITV’s Loose Women and Ch4’s Deal or No Deal.
“Exquisitely done, with a compelling, simmering fury… impressive”

Edinburgh 2017 He has finally checked in his ego and will be appearing as part of the socialist utopia of the Free Festival. A proper pro for no dough!
‘McGhie reminds you that an hour of pure stand-up comedy can be a great thing’
This is Jimmy's sixth solo hour, so according to best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell, that means he's only 9,994 hours away from being brilliant. Not that it's Jimmy's fault it's taking so long.
Confronting masculinity, mortality, the sins of the father and his complete inability to resist a good salesman. Along the way he encounters some vicious anti-corporate satirists, and explains how various early childhood humiliations made him what he is today: a clown.
Painfully brilliant, pathologically charming and frequently deluded Jimmy McGhie slinks back to Edinburgh after bunking last year. After performing to great acclaim all over the world, from Mumbai to Melbourne, Jimmy returns with more soulful and searingly honest stand-up.
“Grown-up, insightful comedy that isn’t dependent on shock value and still had me thinking about issues he’d raised hours after the show. Excellent.”
“Last year I said he had “one to watch” stamped on his forehead; well, this year he has “see him now before you have to queue around the O2″ stamped on his forehead. There are few comics I can think of who have the sheer star quality of Jimmy McGhie. He is the perfect little comedy package.”
“Hilarious, self deprecating and lovable… A fantastic storyteller.”
★★★★★ Three Weeks
“He is wonderful with audience interaction, smartly self-effacing and I cannot think of any possible reason for his not being a huge star.”
