He's travelled the world from festival to festival taking in the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Canberra, Perth and Sydney Comedy Festivals as well as the New Zealand Comedy festival. Phew. That’s a lot of festivals. No wonder he hasn’t settled down.
"A comic who is supremely good at what he does, even when he is not doing very much”
The Scotsman
An analogue man in a digital world, marooned as a bachelor amongst a sea of marriages and kids, Jimmy continues to steer clear of anything too serious in life and not step on any millennial language land mines.
"This is all tightly-packed, twinkly, high-octane funny. I have no idea why this man is not all over Live at the Apollo like a rash."
★★★★ The Scotsman
Edinburgh 2017 He has finally checked in his ego and will be appearing as part of the socialist utopia of the Free Festival. A proper pro for no dough!
‘McGhie reminds you that an hour of pure stand-up comedy can be a great thing’
★★★★ Scotsman
This is Jimmy's sixth solo hour, so according to best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell, that means he's only 9,994 hours away from being brilliant. Not that it's Jimmy's fault it's taking so long.
★★★★ Chortle.co.uk
Confronting masculinity, mortality, the sins of the father and his complete inability to resist a good salesman. Along the way he encounters some vicious anti-corporate satirists, and explains how various early childhood humiliations made him what he is today: a clown.
★★★★ Scotsman
Painfully brilliant, pathologically charming and frequently deluded Jimmy McGhie slinks back to Edinburgh after bunking last year. After performing to great acclaim all over the world, from Mumbai to Melbourne, Jimmy returns with more soulful and searingly honest stand-up.
★★★★ Chortle.co.uk
“Grown-up, insightful comedy that isn’t dependent on shock value and still had me thinking about issues he’d raised hours after the show. Excellent.”
★★★★ Chortle
“Last year I said he had “one to watch” stamped on his forehead; well, this year he has “see him now before you have to queue around the O2″ stamped on his forehead. There are few comics I can think of who have the sheer star quality of Jimmy McGhie. He is the perfect little comedy package.”
★★★★ Scotsman
“Hilarious, self deprecating and lovable… A fantastic storyteller.”
★★★★★ Three Weeks
“He is wonderful with audience interaction, smartly self-effacing and I cannot think of any possible reason for his not being a huge star.”
