Jimmy performed his critically acclaimed 9th solo show ‘BA (Hons)’ to sell out crowds at the 2020 Adelaide Fringe. He was due to continue on the Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra Comedy Festivals, until disaster struck and he was unceremoniously booted back home for a year long lockdown party on the sofa.
Throughout 2020 he performed in and hosted a variety of online shows, gigs and corporate events and is looking forward to getting back out on the road in July 2021. You can catch him for the Grand re-opening of the London Comedy Store on July 8/9/10th.
Back in 2019 , BA (Hons) played to full rooms and critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe. The show was selected as one of the Scotsman newspaper critic’s ‘best shows to see in Edinburgh’- view Kate Copstick’s review here and The Pick of Edinburgh review here. Jimmy also hosted the prestigious ‘Pick of the Fringe 2019’ at the Sheraton Hotel for the third year in a row.
Jimmy also performed in Canada for the first time appearing at the renowned Yuk Yuks comedy chain. He popped up in Olso performing at Latter Comedy Club and various shows in Norway, Belgium and Holland.
2021 will see Jimmy performing at all the top comedy clubs around the UK and Europe once restrictions allow, and hosting a variety of corporate awards events. Hopefully he will be seen warming up the studio audience for the Graham Norton Show once again.
Jimmy was an Assistant Producer for the BBC’s Science and History Dept, having spent seven years working in factual television before he ran off to join the stand up comedy circus professionally in 2009. Since then he has performed stand up all over the world and appeared on numerous television and radio programmes including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, Comedy Central, ABC Australia, THREE New Zealand, Absolute Radio and many more.
He is “a brilliant talent” (The Scotsman) and with “an easy charm and appealing relaxed manner” (Chortle), he has performed 10 solo shows at festivals around the world including the Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Perth Comedy Festival and New Zealand International Comedy festival.
He is now a top circuit act in the UK, as well as a highly sought after corporate awards host and TV warm up artist. He regularly provides the studio warm up for BBC1’s Graham Norton Show, ITV’s Loose Women and Ch4’s Deal or No Deal.
“Exquisitely done, with a compelling, simmering fury… impressive”
Jimmy has performed at and hosted over 100 corporate events for companies such as Coco-Cola, Google, YouTube, Shell, Nestle, McDonalds, DAF, ProSound, Insider, Deutshe Bank, JP Morgan, HSBC and many more.

He's travelled the world from festival to festival taking in the Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Canberra, Perth and Sydney Comedy Festivals as well as the New Zealand Comedy festival. Phew. That’s a lot of festivals. No wonder he hasn’t settled down.
"A comic who is supremely good at what he does, even when he is not doing very much”
An analogue man in a digital world, marooned as a bachelor amongst a sea of marriages and kids, Jimmy continues to steer clear of anything too serious in life and not step on any millennial language land mines.
"This is all tightly-packed, twinkly, high-octane funny. I have no idea why this man is not all over Live at the Apollo like a rash."
★★★★ The Scotsman
Edinburgh 2017 He has finally checked in his ego and will be appearing as part of the socialist utopia of the Free Festival. A proper pro for no dough!
‘McGhie reminds you that an hour of pure stand-up comedy can be a great thing’
This is Jimmy's sixth solo hour, so according to best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell, that means he's only 9,994 hours away from being brilliant. Not that it's Jimmy's fault it's taking so long.
Confronting masculinity, mortality, the sins of the father and his complete inability to resist a good salesman. Along the way he encounters some vicious anti-corporate satirists, and explains how various early childhood humiliations made him what he is today: a clown.
Painfully brilliant, pathologically charming and frequently deluded Jimmy McGhie slinks back to Edinburgh after bunking last year. After performing to great acclaim all over the world, from Mumbai to Melbourne, Jimmy returns with more soulful and searingly honest stand-up.
“Grown-up, insightful comedy that isn’t dependent on shock value and still had me thinking about issues he’d raised hours after the show. Excellent.”
“Last year I said he had “one to watch” stamped on his forehead; well, this year he has “see him now before you have to queue around the O2″ stamped on his forehead. There are few comics I can think of who have the sheer star quality of Jimmy McGhie. He is the perfect little comedy package.”
“Hilarious, self deprecating and lovable… A fantastic storyteller.”
★★★★★ Three Weeks
“He is wonderful with audience interaction, smartly self-effacing and I cannot think of any possible reason for his not being a huge star.”
